DEDICATED TO PROTECTING CHICAGO'S COMMUTERS
On September 8, 2022, Sam Bell was riding his bike in a protected bike lane on Milwaukee Avenue near Huron Street. A driver failed to yield before turning and Sam passed away as a result of the accident. Efforts are now being pursued to enhance the signage and visibility for cyclists and pedestrians at the intersection where the accident occurred.

The Chicago Street Safety initiative was created by The Samuel Bell Memorial Foundation in honor of Sam and all of the other commuters who have lost their lives in Chicago. The Samuel Bell Memorial Foundation is currently compiling data and outlining solutions that will be proposed to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) in an effort to enhance safety measures at Huron Street and Milwaukee Avenue.
